Charm and Romance in Totnes

Standard

We’re here in the West Country today, and very lovely it is too! Temperature is around 15 degrees C, the weather cloudy and humid. I am extremely fond of this part of Britain. The West Country has beautiful and awesome scenery, a rich history and charm … and I met my husband here 🙂

When I wrote Just-You Eyes, I set it in Totnes, a relatively small and unique market town in South Devon, with a history that stretches from the first century AD. I wanted to contrast the cosy familiarity of such a place compared to the perceived glamour and excitement of a big city. Elliot lives in Totnes, comfortable with his modest life and the friendly inhabitants who’ve known his family for generations. But then he meets the attractive hotel manager Alexsy, who’s living and working in London – and his head is turned just enough to consider an adventure!

And the title? It refers to the special look that Elliot is looking for in a lover – the total attention that a loved one both gives and deserves.

~~~~~~~~
Elliot didn’t know that offering to help his sister get over her broken love affair would mean attending a speed-dating evening at the local hotel in their quaint English town. Obviously, as a gay man, he’s not the target group, and there’s nothing for him there except cheap wine and uncomfortable chairs. But when hotel manager Alexsy sits down opposite him and offers an evening of a very different kind than Elliot expected, Elliot’s tempted to try something for the very first time in his life—the tantalizing adventure of a one-night stand.
About clarelondon
Clare London took her pen name from the city where she lives, loves, and writes. A lone, brave female in a frenetic, testosterone-fuelled family home, she juggles her writing with her other day job as an accountant. She’s written in many genres and across many settings, with award-winning novels and short stories published both online and in print. She says she likes variety in her writing while friends say she’s just fickle, but as long as both theories spawn good fiction, she’s happy. Most of her work features male/male romance and drama with a healthy serving of physical passion, as she enjoys both reading and writing about strong, sympathetic, and sexy characters. Clare currently has several novels sulking at that tricky chapter three stage and plenty of other projects in mind... she just has to find out where she left them in that frenetic, testosterone-fuelled family home.   1. My week’s holiday just outside Totnes (pronounced tot-NESS in case anyone’s struggling) ended yesterday, the day before the torch arrived there. Bad timing, or what?
    It’s an interesting little town, full of alternative lifestyles, I imagine it’s quite gay-friendly if all the rainbow flags are anything to go by. I think I may have had a coffee in the very room where Elliot’s speed-dating experience took place.
    Lovely story – thanks!
